They haven't reconned anything. The Paris outbreak will still be canon but contained by the French authorities.

I read somewhere that the rest of the world is "relatively" unscathed by the virus. There have been cases in other countries but they have been dealt with.

This is poor quality journalism, based largely on assumptions from the writer.

"Officially retconning" is not accurate. If you actually read the Empire article, it says other countries besides Britain were RELATIVELY uneffected. In other words, they had cases of the virus but nothing in comparison to Britain.

Is it not possible that the outbreak in Paris was contained?

Why on earth would they retcon when they could simply confirm with one line of dialogue that the French authorities successfully dealt with the virus arriving there?

As for the first film hinting at a global pandemic, they were unconfirmed reports based on in-universe rumours.

Nothing has been retconned, certainly not officially.

The writer clearly wasn't paying attention to 28 Years Later's trailer, which pretty much confirms that "Jimmy" is one of the children in the scene with the Tellytubbies.

The trailer also very strongly hints that Jimmy goes on to become the feral-looking man seen later in the teaser footage.

That Jimmy-themed grafitti makes reference to "clouds" and in one of the next shots, we see the feral man surrounded by clouds.

The filmmakers gave us everything we need in that trailer to piece together who Jimmy is while still leaving plenty of intrigue. The clues were obviously too subtle for the writer of this article.
