Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black
Every character delivered.
We all care about someone or something; even people who exhibit a cold exterior (Jules, Norman) are often hiding the ache of emptiness (Mallory, Olivia), deep pain (Charles, Roy), or desperation and insecurity (Body, Delinda) resulting from ongoing or repressed trauma with some exceptions in cases of severe psychological illness such as sociopathy. Some of these characters portray a mixture of these issues.
Horace is an astute, formidable strategist. Quietly, yet unmistakably powerful. A man of his word. You may not see him coming, but you'll know when he arrives, and if he chooses, won't leave any trace of himself behind. His illness may have slowed him down, but did not diminish him.
My favorite scenes with him where he voiced some of his best lines in the newly released episodes are: his meeting with the crooked judge, private lunch with the family lawyer (a cleverly calculated move), his fight with Roy in the hospital, catching Jules red-handed having Kimmie being beaten up, his fatherly patience with Sylvia, and shocking everyone by marrying Kimmie. Checkmate.
Kimmie is about to step into her essence. I cannot wait to watch her petals unfurl - especially once Horace gets her properly acclimated - and see her natural grace, often smothered by her struggles, shine as she hones her finesse and relies on her experiences and humility to balance scales and bridge gaps while retaining her edge.
Angel has a good heart but keeps making wrong turns. Nonetheless, his story holds promise, so we'll see how it develops in the future.
Rain is loyal and perceptive, and she, too, deserves a better life.
I look forward to Lena making Olivia think twice about underestimating her.
The acting is riveting. Dialogue delivery is sometimes slightly stilted but that’s a quick directorial fix. A light sprinkle of 'laugh out loud' moments breaks the tension well without disrupting the flow - it's NOT a comedy show.
Exciting times ahead for Beauty in Black!

See AllCriminal Minds Showrunner Previews Why Matthew Gray Gubler's Spencer Reid Is Finally Returning
Dr. Spencer Reid, Derek Morgan, Ms. Penelope Garcia were my absolute favorites from start to finish of the original Criminal Minds series. I loved the way each of their characters were developed, but I loved each member of the rest of the cast, too. I especially loved the characters, Jason Gideon and David Rossi in their unique roles as team leaders.
I confess I haven't watched Criminal Minds: Evolution since it started, but I'll get to it (like a book I can't wait to read).
Matthew Gray Gubler is phenomenal :).
Longmire Creator Wants To Revive His 6-Season Western Series As It Prepares To Leave Netflix
Longmire was good to the last drop except for some aspects of the romantic intimacy sub-plots that sometimes ventured toward avoidable ridiculousness.
Nonetheless, the cast consistently delivered heartfelt performances that unflinchingly explore:
- American Indian culture through language, spiritual beliefs and practices, and other traditions,
- the effects of historic injustices on their people, particularly women and children, and the resulting impact on their relationship with White (and other non-native) Americans, which is evident in the lingering pervasive distrust that impairs communication and connection with external communities,
- the nuances of law and life in the context of remote American society, and
- the triumph of shared humanity in circumstances fraught with deep anger and hurt, and complicated by lack of understanding and misinformation.
Longmire is filled with stories of perseverance against seemingly impossible odds and the triumph of good over evil without ignoring the consequences of human errorrs and misdeeds.
The Only 3 Actors To Win Best Actor Oscars For Portraying Kings
Yul Brynner and Colin Firth... absolutely brilliant in their performances!!
I did not see the movie with Charles Langston, so I can't comment on how he commanded his role in it.
"One Of The Most Egregious": Spike Lee Argues Denzel Washington Should've Won The Oscar For Best Actor In His 1992 Biopic Movie
Denzel absolutely deserved the Oscar for Malcolm X.
Yes, Al got the 'make up' Oscar because anyone who watched The Godfather and Godfather II knows that's where he clearly earned the Oscar(s).
Spike nailed the assessment!
Jason Statham's $125 Million Action Movie Sequel Might Be The Closest He Ever Gets To A James Bond Movie
Jason Statham as James Bond would absolutely be worth it. He morphs beautifully into his on-screen characters, thrilling movie audiences from start to finish because he's outstanding at playing the good 'bad' guy.
Who Blew Up Charles' Car & Why In Beauty In Black Season 1?
What I think is good:
This show has the potential to develop a loyal fan base.
It manages to simultaneously evoke a healthy combo of curiosity, righteous anger, rueful disdain, and a desire for justice for the underdog(s) with near seamlessness and appeal to a diverse audience.
Its sub-plots deliver a seductive cocktail of mystery, dark humor, an interpretative spin on the seven sins, and the tension between good and evil through character consistency and realistic portrayals of the traps of power and poverty, without straying from the primary plot lines.
The performances are ionate and believable, and the primary players are sufficiently compelling.
Mallory: an elegant diva who hides her emotional struggles and insecurities behind a veneer of arrogance and crushing meanness.
Calvin: attractive with a controlled swagger and air of mystique aided by his economical use of words and ability to read the room and navigate the power dynamics accordingly.
Kimmie: conscientious, sweet, and braver than she knows [a caged lioness].
Horace: underestimated [because of his physical ailments], a silent power broker with an aura of contained authority and readiness to act without needing to flaunt his apparently considerable influence.
The family lawyer: a pragmatic strategist who refuses to be dominated by his vices.
The lawyer who is suing the family: beautiful, persistent, not easily intimidated or ruffled.
What needs improvement: The nudity and sex scenes can be toned down (I almost tuned out more than once).
Rawness for salacious impact is good when it isn't overdone to avoid having the plot devolve into a substandard trash fête.
Understandably, some characters will be need to be gradually fleshed out as the sub-plots grow.
Great end-of-season cliffhanger!
