See AllAssassin’s Creed Shadows’ DLC Might Make Me Want To Play Yasuke Even Less
The main issue with Yasuke isn’t that he doesn’t have a great story or that there aren’t ways to have fun playing him. The problem is that he isn’t an AC protagonist. I think the reason for that isn’t because they wanted to stick to historical accuracy and make him an honorable Samurai who faces his foes head on, it’s because GoT beat them to the stealthy Samurai assassin punch. He feels like he belongs in a different game because he does. He doesn’t feel like a main character, everything from his the way his mechanics are used during dual missions, the fact that he’s an actual historical figure, and even his story arc feels like a character, which is sad because after playing I think he deserved better. If Ghost of Tsushima didn’t exist and they didn’t have so much pressure being compared to it during development, I truly think we would have gotten everything Yasuke has now PLUS everything Naoe has - probably in one character. Instead of just making a AC game or creating a new IP for the fans who want a bloodier, more direct approach, we got this Assassins Creed, GoT, Rise of the Ronin mash up that feels… like an identity crisis.
