Hunt for Red October was the first writing to consolidate numerous submarine warfare technics & maneuvers in one place. Secretary of the Navy Leaman said if Clancy had been in the Navy, he would have had him court-marshalled. Clancy had to prove his public sources for material before the Navy would approve the printing.

The hugely excessive cursing & profanity was a major drawback to the show. Clearly an obsession on the part of the writers. Distracted from an interesting storyline. Overuse ruins the impact & effect.

The constant cursing & profanity practically ruined the show. Far beyond any character development or level of valid communication. Clearly a writer obsession. Interesting show on spite of that major continuing distraction.
