See AllWas cutting Gantu from the live-action Lilo & Stitch the correct decision?
I agree with what Tessa said ✨ Just watched the new Lilo & Stitch live-action… and whew, I’ve got some thoughts. 😅
First off, I’ve always loved the original animated version—and honestly, I still do. Nothing compares to the magic, heart, and humor that made it so special. The live-action had a few cute moments, but overall, a lot of changes just didn’t sit right with me.
Here’s what didn’t work for me:
• They completely changed Pleakley—his design, his personality, and even his relationship with Jumba. He used to be scared of Jumba, and that dynamic added so much charm!
• I really wish they brought back the original voice actors. Jumba and Pleakley’s voices were iconic and unforgettable.
• No Gantu? Seriously? Big missed opportunity. 😩
• Making Jumba the villain felt off. And not having Cobra Bubbles as the social worker? That was disappointing—he brought so much presence to the original.
• I wasn’t a fan of Jumba and Pleakley turning human either. It just didn’t feel right.
• And seeing Nani leave Lilo, and Lilo end up in foster care? That completely shifted the heart of the story in a way I didn’t love.
Disney has done some great live-action remakes… but this just wasn’t one of them for me. Some classics are better left untouched.
I’ll always be loyal to the animated Lilo & Stitch. 💙
