The reality is that most fans of comic books (and their narratives) are young males. Young males want to be the hero. Their narrative fantasies are all about conquering evil, being the hero, and getting the girl. Having women as the heroes is never going to resonate with most male psychology. Men wanted to be the rescuers, not the rescued. That's not misogynist or bigoted. It's just the way men have been wired for millenia. It's in our DNA.
