The writing reminded me of Pretty Little Liars, the focus keeping the audience intrigued with twists and turns and no thought of how they come together to make any sense. It's all contradictions, plot holes, and entirely frustrating and underwhelming reveals/conclusions.

There's always been social commentary, that's part of the genre. This is more the overt social commentary. It's dumbed down for kids to a difficult-to-watch degree. It's not even social commentary, it's not messy and nuanced, it's not getting you to think. It's kid-style 'moral of the story' wrapped up nice n neat with a bow.

Except that the latest season wasn't a family show, it was a kids show. As was commented earlier, it's an 8-12 years kids show.
It's been far too dumbed down anyone older than that. And the 'kids, this is the moral of the story' recaps at the end of episodes play to that, with those lessons being related to that age group. Space babies obvs being the most blatant.
