This isn't actually necessarily a bad thing, in canon, Norman Osborne actually became an Iron Man stand in, he went under the name Iron Patriot, iron Man armor painted in red white and blue, he actually led a team of dark avengers, he was not in fact an iron Man replacement, but the same old villain with government backing and painting the avengers as incompetent.
