It's the same thing that happened to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby...who created most of the Marvel Comics universe....they sold their rights to all of that for literally nothing....Also they had an employee agreement they had to sign that stated whatever they created would belong to Marvel....It's sad but too late for all these creators of comic book history
