It wasn't underwhelming, it was overwhelmingly terrible.

Resurrection did not understand The Matrix and I fully the theory that Lily only did the movie because they were gonna just do it without her. Resurrections was terrible and didn't just retcon fan theories but the matrix story itself. It's full of both character assassination as well as simple inconsistencies with the philosophy and lessons of the -- in my opinion highly misunderstood - original trilogy.
