To me it sounds like Warner Brothers now owns the rights, so the 25 year issue should only apply if WB decides to license the copyright. This could end up backfiring against the estate, and WB could be looking at a settlement. If the rights were sold and not leased, which is more than likely the case, than any lawsuit by the estate could be seen as fraud.
