Maybe you missed what Jonathan Kent did to Henry Cavill Clark Kent. When teenager Clark asks Jonathan if he should've let the kids die, you do see Jonathan hesitate in the answer.

Christopher Reeve Superman never did that. He just didn't want Clark to risk exposing himself, but he would've never hesitated if that Clark was put on a similar position.

Cavill worked with what he got and he made his Clark and Superman feel real.

But Corenswet. Given the number of characters he's going to have the share the movie with, I'll be surprised if we get anything of Clark besides that ridiculous hairstyle as well as him and Lois kissing one another.
