See AllCBS Ghosts Fixed The UK Version's Harmful Trope (& It's One Of Its Best Stories)
I disagree so disrespectfully.
Without even making it about this show (there aren't the hours in the day), having awareness of tropes like bury your gays when you're creating something is about making sure that these aren't the ONLY types of stories told about a group of people. The increasingly common implication that we can't or shouldn't tell queer stories that are tragic, sad, or heartbreaking puts as many limits on the way we can express ourselves and our community as saying those are the ONLY stories we can tell.
The cast have explicitly said that the Captain dies of shame and a broken heart, and by the end of the show he has a family that loves and accepts him. That doesn't have to be a queer romance for it to be important and valid.
