I loved John Wayne in movies like True Grit and The Shootist. But I also loved Eastwood's High Plains Drifter and The Outlaw Josey Wales. Just shows that the Western can be a big tent and appeal to a lot of different tastes.

Studios should consider reading a new book now and then, or at least speak to someone who reads. They might find out there are thousands of fresh new stories out there waiting to be adapted, rather than turning over old properties like compost and expecting a fresh new smell. And if they can't do that, at least keep your retreads to properties that weren't done justice the first time around, maybe improve on them this time. You can't improve on Copland so why bother...

Until watching this show, I had no idea how easy it.is to treat a good horse kicking/stomping. First, just lean on the gruesome compound leg fracture (because shattered bones always just pop back into place) and then slap a red-hot knife to the wound. Not only does it take the fever away, it fixes whatever damage was done by the head kickin' or gut stompin'. Who knew!

People say "Why aren't there more family-oriented movies that adults can enjoy with their kids?" So someone makes one, critics get to rehash their hatred of Gibson and so-called writers like this one can tsk-tsk him for not focusing on more "culturally relevant" projects. So there's your answer, I guess -- entertaining families isn't "relevant" anymore...

The only Mad Max that could get me back into the theater would be Mel Gibson returning as Max, like Hugh Jackman as an older Wolverine in Logan. And don't tell me he's too old...John Wayne was still making movies at 70 and he only had one lung...
