Characters are the glue that holds a fantasy story together. They react in a fashion that makes sense for whatever bizarre situation the storyline throws at them. Fantasy writers have to develop Characters in a way to get their readers to relate to, some to cheer for some to desire a grizzly demise. Game of Thrones got that right for 5 seasons. Then they started lening more on visuals and less on storytelling.
