I'm Really Concerned About The State Of The Star Wars Fandom Right Now
The divide among fans started with Lucasfilm's expectations of them with the release of the Prequel Trilogy.
They expected the fans who were kids for the originals would flock to the prequels with their children. They did for the first, but confidence waned as the films grew progressively worse. It did not help that the twists in the original trilogy were undermined by some plot developments.
Lucasfilm also failed to realise that younger audiences expect more of a plot in movies.
Disney have been hampered by their rush to recoup the money spent to acquire Lucasfilm.
They are depending too much on origin stories and not on original material. For example in "Solo: A Star Wars story", they could have put Han Solo in the worst situations, but you knew he and Chewbacca would survive because they would be in the cantina.
Disney need to slow and change their approach and concentrate on creating new material within the Star Wars universe while, at the same time, respecting new audiences as well as acknowleding the original fan-base.
