Okay one thing that should be clarified is Akira didn't want Gohan to not have the spotlight. He was forced too. The fans of the show grew up watching Kid Goku and Akira was gonna make Gohan the main focus of Z but once that started becoming clear the fans got upset and demanded Goku back. Hence the revival of Goku.
