I'm very sure Durge is the canon protag. Their corpse literally shows up if you don't play Durge meaning that they exist and have a core part of the story as an ex member of the dead three and I'm pretty sure you play as a bhaalspawn in the first two games too.

Wyll is a great character and even one of my favorites (fight me) but he is definitely not the canon protag.
