Gohan is overrated as is. He became obsolete as a character as soon as Trunks and Goten were introduced, and the series needs to stop going back to him, trying to make him the most powerful. He doesn’t deserve it, and two better characters are waiting in the wings. And he is not the most popular half-saiyan; Trunks has had him beat for decades in popularity.

Toriyama had been phoning it in since the end of the Frieza saga. He couldn’t even keep his lore straight on a simple a subject as to why Trunks and Goten don’t have tails. Toriyama has only been involved because he was receiving a paycheck. After the Buu saga, anyone could have seen that series should have turned back to comedy/adventure and not fighting, as there was nothing more to be gained after the heights of the Buu saga, yet even Toriyama screwed that up by introducing Beerus and the rest of the nonsense that followed. Let’s not pretend that Toriyama barely cared anymore after Frieza, which was his original intended stopping point anyway.
