I love the movie that David Lynch made. It has been a favorite of mine for more than a decade (especially the extended version with Butlerian Jihad backstory). Villanueve is able to craft a longer and more faithful retelling due to the popularity of Lynch's movie. The many previous attempts that never saw light are evidence of this. David Lynch struck the chord that got more people interested in the books.
