See AllAlien Never Finished Prometheus' Story (We're Getting Something Much Better Instead)
"Prometheus" and "Covenant" had given me - and others, I would dare wager, exactly what I was expecting in regards to backstory.
Box Office returns aside, if Torrent statistics were taken into and box office returns calculated or adjusted to for them, perhaps the studio would see just how "successful" those features were/are and exactly how absolutely hungry fans of the franchise are.
The teaser ending of "Covenant" is like dangling a steak in front of a salivating dog and THAT sours the appetite of the existing fan-base to be treated to such a tease without closure.
"Romulus" was/is a good film and "Prey" was a decent departure, however, David's intended machinations remain relegated to the imaginations of the (dwindling) fandom.
How many "Predator" or "Predator vs. Aliens" films do we need before the studio heads recognize the signs of diluted value and/or interest?
For all of the detritus that is released nowadays ("Snow White", "Borderlands", etc.), an "Alien" threequel would indeed be a very welcome and satisfying change of pace and would show the Powers That Be that SOMEONE is actually paying all due attention to the (exhorbitant) ticket-buying public.
"May Not Be A Direct Sequel": Next Alien Movie Gets Intriguing Tease From Romulus Producer As Early Development Is Underway
Speaking solely for myself, I really need the closure denied by the suspension/cancellation of the Covenant storyline.
Since Alien, myself (like so many, MANY others) have been left at the altar by not having been provided with anything that connects to the origin of the Space Jockey.
Sure, we now know how and why the chest was breached but we do not know HOW it came to be there.
I am no millionaire but I would venture to wager that bringing that storyline to a close would be like the best post-coital cigarette EVER.
In the meantime, I will continue to be patient and hope for a satisfying continuation of the Romulus storyline.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
I’ve Never Seen A Star Trek Character Go From Hated To Beloved As Fast As This Guy
I have always thought that "critics", more often than not, spend more time in attempts to justify their particular pedigrees/degrees and end up betraying their journalistic integrity.
Audience response should be considered above all, especially in regards to the science fiction genre.
That being said, the first and second seasons of Picard were lambasted by those whose inability to suspend belief and follow some unwritten Canon Bible, without just watching the presentations without commentary - good or bad.
Season 3 was a MASTERPIECE and very long awaited as countless fans had their appetites whetted by the spurious cameos in season 1.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson ruins so many science fiction offerings, however, his input does not dilute my particular enjoyment when taken in the correct context which is to separate science from fiction.
How many negative opinions have been rendered already regarding Section 31 and Starfleet Academy based simply on casting disclosures and a very brief trailer?
Far too many (so-called) journalists/critics have far too much sway and say as to what the fans should like versus whatever it is that THEY like.
Stop drinking the Kool-Aid and just be thankful that there is programming that titillates the imagination, otherwise, change your selections, watch something else and keep your often unsolicited opinions to your respective selves.
The crown jewel of the Star Trek Universe would certainly be Star Trek: Legacy.
Terry Matalas has moved on to other responsibilities now but I would hope that, given the green light, he would return as Showrunner for the series and the principal cast would reprise their roles.
THAT particular revelation would make a Paramount+ expenditure worthwhile.
As of this moment in television/streaming history...not so much.
