I still argue that with the proper director, cast, special FX team, production design, etc., this story could translate incredibly well to live action. The trick is, EVERY SINGLE ONE of those elements would have to be dead on, or else it would fall on its face.

The story just didn't have the emotional gravity of the first film. I was dubious going in about the musical aspect, and while I don't feel like that element quite landed, I at least got what they were going for. It could have worked in the proper context. That aside, I feel like weakness in the storytelling coupled with a horrendous ending are what ultimately brough this one crashing down.

Hate to say it but Cameron has so missed the boat in of capitalizing on the success of the first film. I mean, 13 years between the first two, and now he's stretching it to 2031 for #5? That's a full 22 years from the first to the last film. Someone who enjoyed the original as a teenager will be darn close to middle-aged by then.
