The only thing to that should have "screwed" Marty up was back in 1855 when when he found out who his great grandparents were.

His great grandparents are himself (Seamus) and his mom (Maggie). Yet they had a child together.. I found that very peculiar.

I know it was just the director's way of simplifying the storyline. But still.
