The real issue isn't just that they changed things. But that the writer doesn't have any respect for the source material. People always cite Peter Jackson and Lord of the Rings.This is nowhere near so good, or close to what Peter Jackson's team did. They didn't change characters and how they interacted with one another. They didn't change how the characters reacted to the world around them. They changed, in minor ways, how we met them to fit the story into a shorter length for theatrical release. These writers here, started messing with the fundamentals of the story from episode 1 like a bull in a China shop, without realizing the consequences of their changes. Now these new changes, aren't some re-imagining, they are now just chasing their own tails, because the early messing around has written them into corners they have to back out of.
