I absolutely love the books and have read them all multiple times. There is no way they could have done this that would have made us readers happy. If you simply watch the show for what it is I think it's absolutely amazing. No it doesn't follow the books and changes many things but if you haven't read the books you would never know and simply have a great fantasy show to enjoy.
