Aliens franchise is great but by bringing in more universal and existential sci-fi themes Prometheus started a new deeper exploration of thoughtful science fiction for adult audiences that are not only looking to be scared but want to be engaged on a more profound level of imagination. Continuing the story would give that adult audience a chance to see more of that new universe of storylines we just got to scratch the surface of in Prometheus.
