Lots of people in the D&D community did not go see the film in theaters because of Hasbro/WotC's actions regarding their licensing. They tried to change their licensing to get lots of money from creators right before the movie released and even though they walked it back, it left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths and did a great disservice to this really good film.

You should really do an article about that situation and how it impacted sales and caused other companies (MCDM and Critical Role, namely) to go ahead and create their own game systems.
