I'm really trying to like this show. So many good hospital dramas are gone and I'm trying to fill the gap, but, no, this one falls flat.
Amy is just not a likable character. There's ZERO chemistry between her and her lover. If this weren't the case it wouldn't bother me that he looks SO much younger. The two things together though, actually make them unattractive as a couple.
There's really nothing compelling about the show at all.

I so agree. Young Ian is one of my favorite characters and he just becomes more interesting as he ages. I have a feeling we won't see Ian James again, though. That felt like a wrap on that story line when Young Ian had the opportunity to meet him and name him. Although, who knows? Maybe Emily's reasoning that he might need his English name someday foreshadowed a later reappearance from him.
