If the show wants to redeem itself, The Stranger would have to be one of the Blue Wizards as they are the only Wizards that could be around in the Second Age they are said that they arrived around the same time as when the One Ring was forged, Gandalf doesn't arrive until the 3rd Age as with Saruman and Radagast.
