I think the xenomorphs, that David creates, could be a precursor to what would eventually become the first "Alien" queen. Therefore explaining the error in continuity between the creationof the xenomorphs. David, creates the first queen, which then goes on to spawn the xenomorph race we know from the originals. Just a theory.
