It's not possible Boyd knew Randall was surrounded since they were separated by the ambulance. The monster saying they keep Randall could mean that they attack Randall in the bus for all Boyd knows. I'm sure his military training had him thinking Randall made it back and he'll deal with the monsters and that situation later.
