The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
This is one of only a handful of pieces of media out there that fails both as an adaptation and as a stand alone piece. The only things this series has in common with the source material is a handful of names. That's it. The Amazon original characters (which is the vast majority of them) are all as flat and lifeless as cardboard cutouts, while the canonical characters are all the exact opposite of who they're supposed to be.
Even judging it on its own merits, the show still falls flatter than a pancake. The main issue is that the story is sinfully boring. It had the pacing of a slug trying to power through molasses, and the vast majority of screen time is filled with people either sitting and talking, or walking and talking. And rarely is it even talking about important stuff. The story is also stuffed to the gills with logical inconsistencies and decisions that don't make a single lick of sense. The best I could possibly say is that the scenery is pretty and the orcs look decent. It's only a shame that the lowest I could give is a one star rating.
Clearly, the people behind this show wanted to eat their cake and have it too. They wanted to ride the coattails of one of the most beloved authors of the past century, but they didn't want to put in the work of actually following what the man wrote. Hopefully this lurching, Frankenstein's monster of a show can serve as an example to future producers of what not to do; If you're going to adapt someone else's intellectual property, either do it right, or don't do it at all.

Ah yes, the pacing of a slug trying to power through molasses, and the non-existent suspense. Of course.

Not very likely, Cristina Trujillo. I can count the number of lore accurate things in this show on one hand.

I genuinely wonder if the people behind this show have actually read Tolkien's writings, or if they just licked the ink off the pages.

People hate this show because it uses Tolkien's name while not even following what the man wrote. The only things this show has in common with the source material it claims to follow is a handful of names. That's it. The people behind this show wanted to ride the coattails of one of the most beloved authors of the past century, while simultaneously thinking that they could do better than him. Had they actually respected the source material and strived to make a faithful adaptation, then the derision wouldn't be anywhere near the level it is now.

So, when the producers promised season 2 would be more lore accurate, that was a complete bold faced lie. The only things that this show has in common with the source material it claims to follow is a handful of names. If the producers were to remove the handful of ties to Tolkien's works and have it be an original series, then a lot of the problems people have with this show would disappear. It would still be a thoroughly mediocre show, but at least it wouldn't be an insult to one of the most beloved stories of the past century. This is one of only a handful of media out there that fails both as an adaptation and as a stand alone piece, which I suppose is an impressive feat in and of itself.
