I was very excited about this series when I first learned of its creation. I then was even more excited when I learned that Robert Redford and Anne Hillerman were executive producers.

I must say that my expectations of what was created have been completely let down.

None of the characters follow the characters in Mr. Hillermans books or even those of Ms. Hillerman.

Jim Chee was the traditionalist and Joe Leaphorn was the character who resisted the "old ways" but tolerated them in defference to his wife Emma.

To have an opportunity to share the stories that Mr. Hillerman had such a ion for and to honor the traditions and mystery of the Navajo nation and then to waste it with this end product is a true tragedy.

The series that was aired on PBS was far superior to whatever this is that AMC has presented to us.

I understand that we live in a time where graphic violence, sexuality and drama take precedence over content, but I truly wish that the writings of Mr. Hillerman were better translated and his stories were given the chance to stand on their own.
