I will always give Gunn the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgement until after watching. That being said, Superman eventually has to face villains that make him weak, but leading with weak Superman is risky. Where do you go from there?

Nope. Spiderman was great because it was the first good Spiderman. Spiderman 2 was better than 1. Spiderman 3 was a dumpster fire. Fun to watch regardless, but not good at all.
