See AllAn Early Harry Potter Wand Detail Doesn't Fit With 7 Books Of Wizarding World Lore
Exactly. I'll add to this by saying that wandless magic is incredibly difficult to do (just like performing a fully corporeal patronus or killing a Basilisk). It's not something even adult wizards dream of doing (never mind about doing it as easily as Harry) and another reason why Dumbledore is viewed as the most powerful alive.
On top of that, all the points Screen Rant made explain why it isn't a plot hole in the first place. Ron as a middle brother is overshadowed and rather neglected by the rest of his family and getting hand-me-down clothes, sandwiches and wands is apart of that, which starts off his whole arc about wanting to be noticed for once and coming out of the shadow of his impressive siblings. On the wand side of it, both Ron and Neville were terrible at magic not just because of confidence issues but also their wands weren't right for them. Kai's answer above about Harry being able to still use Hermione's wand but still having difficulties performing even basic spells adds to that. Also the part in Deathly Hallows about Harry using a snatcher's wand and it not feeling or performing right for him. Rowling clearly outlined that wands are the best instrument to channel magic and wizards with a wand that chooses them are even better, while wands that haven't do not work as well. Simple as that.
