I wondered the same thing about the AFV. One minute it was hit by an IED. I assumed it was a burning wreck and wondered why no effort was made to try to rescue its crew. A few minutes later the smoke cleared and there was no AFV (????)

Yeah, I just saw the movie the other night. I wondered why are there so many s of troops being put in harms way with no method of extracting or ing them. Apparently the plan was to go out as bait for a much larger enemy force, be unable to proactively engage them, then be unable to be extracted, reinforced, or provided air/arty . Then declare success when you are able to escape.
