Whilst it makes sense to reinvent the stories by Ian Fleming when bringing in a new lead actor, it is not like Dr.Who where the character regenerates! The books clearly have a man as 'James', so it simply goes too far away from the stories to then even be referred to as James Bond! There are other stories with female leads as spies, so no need to swap genders on well known characters.
