Ne Zha 2 is an outlier in another way. Nearly all of that $2 billion plus take came from China, with the US contributing an insignificant $20 million. It clearly benefitted from its opening during Chinese New Year, a time of year that is not known for big box office in the US. Its success tells us nothing about box office timing for films where the main audience is expected to be in the US or other western markets.

I won't be watching the show, with or without Lithgow. I'm not going to put one more cent into the hands of JK Rowling. I'm not going to help amplify her transphobic voice. It's a sad place for me to be because I loved the Harry Potter books and movies, but there it is.

I'm also going to advise everybody I know not to watch the show. But people get to make up their own minds.

What it needs most is to let go of Logan. He has never been a good match for Rory because he has no understanding of her small town upbringing and roots. He only connected with the rich socialite part of her. A proper match needs to be equally at home with a fancy gala and a movie marathon at home.

Those numbers also make it third on the all-time list for non-US box office, according to the list on Box Office Mojo (using your $1.7 billion number for Ne Zha 2, they don't yet list the international results for the film). Only Avatar and Avengers:Endgame have pulled in more money. It might well be all time #1 in China.

It opened in the US last weekend (February 14); $8 million so far.
