I've thought about this a bit with this and other popular game remakes. They will never capture the same energy that was there for the original release. That energy is too entwined with that time period. It originally relied on the excitement surrounding the evolution of technology, game mechanics, culture, and current trends of the time.

I don't believe remasters are meant to let the original consumers experience the original nostalgia. What they do is give older generations and newer generations an experience that is somewhere in between. An interface between two different worlds.

This is the reason I don't recommend newer generations play the original when a remake is available. Just play the remake. They will never be able to fully experience the magic that existed on the original release and would really struggle to appreciate it.
