Though ranking of the best Alien movies: it's far better than installments like Alien: Resurrection, but it's not quite as good as the originals. What Prometheus has accomplished, however, is tremendous news for the future of the Alien franchise.

Aside from the sequel to Alien: Romulus. Both of the movies are exciting in their own right, but Prometheus has made them even more tantalizing. Even though it couldn't sur Ridley Scott and James Cameron's first entires to the Alien franchise, Prometheus has stood the test of time remarkably well, and it's making Alien's future even brighter.

Sorry, But Prometheus Doesn't Hold Up To Alien Or Aliens

Prometheus Is Inventive & Daring, But It Can't Compare To The Masterpieces That Are Alien & Aliens

Prometheus is a very good science fiction movie on its own, but as part of the Alien franchise, it simply can't compare to Alien and Aliens. The first two entries to the franchise were absolute masterpieces, and some of the best movies of all time, not just in the sci-fi genre. There are very few movies in general that are on the same level as Alien and Aliens, and Prometheus is simply not one of them. Prometheus couldn't match the thrills and terror, the expertly written characters, and the beautiful cinematography of its predecessors.

The fact that Prometheus can't live up to Alien and Aliens isn't a slight against the newer movie, it's extremely high praise for the first two installments. Prometheus is actually quite good. It developed an intriguing mystery, featured some great characters - Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) is the best Alien protagonist since Ripley - and dared to take some chances with a beloved franchise. Prometheus is weird, experimental, incredibly complex and full of symbolism, and a hundred other things that make it a great film. It's just not as good as Alien and Aliens.

Prometheus' Massive Lore Changes Make Ridley Scott's Next Movie & Romulus 2 Very Exciting

Prometheus' New Additions, Like Black Goo, Opened The Door For Alien's New Movies To Get Very Weird

Though it may not have been able to usurp Alien and Aliens, Prometheus has accomplished something special for the franchise. Because of all the changes Prometheus made to Alien's lore, two of the franchise's movies are extremely exciting and unpredictable. Ridley Scott's Alien movie and Alien: Romulus 2 should both benefit tremendously from the new sandbox Prometheus has built for them to play in. They could further explore Prometheus' black goo and its abilities, revisit David (Michael Fassbender) and his evil plan, or literally anything else. There's no telling how the new Alien movies could surprise viewers after Prometheus.

Alien: Romulus Solved Some Of Prometheus' Biggest Problems

Prometheus' Lore Twists & Story Makes A Lot More Sense After Alien: Romulus

Another reason Ridley Scott's next Alien movie and the sequel to Alien: Romulus are more exciting because of Prometheus is because the franchise finally figured out how to use its prequels. Romulus' Offspring xenomorph variant showed exactly what kind of horrifying effects it could have.

Prometheus is one of the most confusing movies in the Alien franchise, yet it's also one of the most important. Understanding its ending is essential.

Now, the new Alien movies can use the concepts Prometheus introduced without the risk of alienating audiences. Ridley Scott's new Alien movie and Romulus 2 can use Prometheus' black goo or David's bio-engineered xenomorphs without confusing casual viewers and detracting from the scares and thrills Alien is known for. That also means new and exciting xenomorph experiments like the Offspring are possible, since Prometheus opened the door to bio-engineering in general. Thanks to Prometheus, the Alien franchise has a very bright future.
