IGN showcased even more PS5 designs that have popped up only after a week of release. Creative PlayStation owners are customizing not only their consoles, but also the new DualSense controller. People have gotten creative using paint to step up the original design the PS5 has, with general themes like space or consoles based on games like Spider-Man. The Xbox Series X also has seen a few designs, as shown in the Reddit post by TheBardAbaddon.
It is possible Sony intended the design to be simplistic, with the white attachable plates, to open up room for customization. Though at the same time, the company shut down a custom faceplate designer, which might seem like it's discouraging people from "ruining" the original design. Though it is possible Sony doesn't want other businesses trying to make a profit off of PS5 designs, which could mean that more visual options are possible in the future. While the Xbox Series X could have custom designs incoming as well, a black box has a lot less creative space in comparison to the unique shape and design the PlayStation 5 has.
While the PlayStation 5 has already had a lot of success in its release, Sony could push to sell custom designs. As artists around the world are inspired to design their own PlayStation 5, people might want a design for their own console, but may not have the motivation or tools to do so. Sony could easily appeal to this demographic to make consoles of the future customizable to anyone's liking.
