Sony wants PS5 games to experiment with brand new ideas going forward. Sony has had a hand in innovation and experimentation for the video game industry since the late 90s, and it seems that the company wants to continue that trend with its newest console. Many gamers are looking forward to the PS5 when it releases later this year, and it will be interesting to see just how Sony has managed to experiment.

Currently there is not a lot of concrete information known about the PS5. The system has yet to be officially unveiled by Sony, and the canceled or delayed due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) anyway.

PlayStation recently interviewed Worldwide Studios head Hermen Hulst, and during that interview he stated that Sony will continue to focus on innovation for PS5 games. He wants to ensure that studios remain committed to PlayStation hardware and strong narrative driven games. At the same time though he believes that studios should be trying their hardest to experiment and change things up. Hulst says, "At the same time, we’re going to be very open to experimentation, to new ideas. Just trying things out to see what works."

Sony has been at the forefront of innovation with the PS4. In the last several years the company has published several brand new IPs that have boosted sales and solidified the PlayStation fan base. Additionally, the PS4 is the first console to have a VR headset and access to large amount of VR games. The company has even begun to branch out a little by porting Horizon: Zero Dawn to the PC.

Gamers always want to have access to the next best thing or the most technologically advanced hardware. It is extremely important for companies to innovate and experiment to determine what things will be on the cutting edge. Sony has almost always been one of the companies deciding what's next for the industry, and its good to know it will do the same with the PS5.
