It's much easier to find a PS5 console shortage will end in 2023, thankfully, and God of War Ragnarök's release date is apparently a key reason for this increased production.

2018's God of War is considered by many to be the best exclusive game that was released during the PlayStation 4's lifespan. Serving as a reinvention of the mythological action franchise, the game takes players on an epic and emotional journey across Norse mythology alongside Kratos and his young son Atreus. The sequel God of War Ragnarok is set to continue and conclude that amazing story, taking the father-son duo to all Nine Realms to face off against godly foes like Freya and Thor. While the game will be available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the rumored size and length of God of War Ragnarok means that the mythic journey will probably be best experienced on PS5.

Many Sony fans are still struggling to find PS5s in stock, but TechRadar claims that this ongoing shortage will finally end soon. The technology news site explains that Sony has increased PS5 shipments to the US by over 400%, with 2022's yearly shipment speed now exceeding seven million units. TechRadar speculates that Sony is specifically cracking down on shipments of the new-generation console ahead of God of War Ragnarok's release date, in hopes that the first-party exclusive will lead to more sales of the PS5. November's Black Friday sales may be another key motivation for Sony to ensure that shelves are fully stocked with PlayStation 5 consoles as soon as possible.

God of War Ragnarok's Release Date Breathes New Life Into The PS5

Many PlayStation fans were disappointed by the release of Horizon Forbidden West, leaving God of War Ragnarok as Sony's last chance at a massive first-party game for the year. While Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn was a success, the sequel's launch was largely overshadowed by Elden Ring when the soulslike epic released only a week later. Earlier this year, it was also much more difficult to find a PlayStation 5, meaning that many fans were forced to experience Horizon Forbidden West on last-generation hardware. By increasing stock of the PS5 ahead of God of War Ragnarok's November 9 release date, Sony can ensure that fans have a chance to experience 2022's biggest first-party title on the most powerful platform possible.

Rumors suggest that a new PS5 console model with a detachable disc drive is currently in the works, but Sony is looking to first ensure that the original version of the console becomes much more easily obtainable. Many fans are no doubt excited to experience Kratos' and Atreus' next adventure on new-generation hardware, in order to get the best experience possible. Thanks to Sony's attempts to restock the PlayStation 5, it should be much easier to find one before God of War Ragnarok hits shelves.
