The series Queens is one of those series that takes a close look at what goes into the process of making music, as well as the price of enormous fame and success. Just as importantly, it also shows the profound power of female friendship, and how the bonds that form between and among women can sustain them in even the most dreadful and trying of times.
As a result, it is very helpful to think about the various characters that appear in of the zodiac, in order to come to a fuller and richer understanding of the complexities of their characters.
Aries - Valeria
Of the four women, Valeria is the one that on the surface seems to have the least talent. However, appearances can be deceiving, and what she lacks in musical talent she makes up for in ambition.
She has the Aries’ drive to want to succeed at whatever they turn their hand to, which is why she is able to take advantage of every opportunity in order to achieve the type of success that she believes should be hers.
Taurus - Eric
There are few signs more reliable than the Taurus. This is the kind of person that will always be there for their friends and will do anything to help someone in need. These are all traits that Eric, the group’s manager, demonstrates in abundance.
In fact, so great is his devotion to the group that there are some notable moments when his physical health is endangered by his loyalty to others (particularly Lil Muffin).
Gemini - Jill
The Gemini is one of the most mutable of the zodiac signs, and they are very capable of shifting their personality to meet a given circumstance.
This is especially true of Jill, who begins the series as a closeted lesbian. She also eventually shows that there are many facets of her personality, including a tendency to use others for her own benefit. She is, to be sure, one of the most complex and complicated LGBTQ+ characters to have appeared on television.
Cancer - Jeff
Brianna’s husband Jeff, like so many of the other characters that appear in this series, is a bundle of contradictions. While he is clearly deeply empathetic and loves his family–including his wife–he also shows some of the less appealing aspects of the Cancer personality.
In particular, he demonstrates the Cancer’s willingness to pursue whatever they want at a given moment, without a great deal of thought as to how it will affect others.
Leo - Lauren
There’s no question that the Leo is the most powerful and dynamic of the zodiac signs, with an ability to cast a spell on almost anyone that they come into with.
This is true of Lil Muffin, the young pop star whose own success helps to reunite the girl group. From the beginning, she shows that is the stuff that stars are made of, with an ability to draw every eye. At the same time, she also shows Leo’s inability to cope with not being the center of attention.
Virgo - Eric
Even though he has many of the attributes associated with the Taurus, Eric also shows that he has some Virgo in him, as well. As the group’s manager, he is the one responsible for making sure that they attain as much success as possible as they try to claw their way back to the top.
What’s more, he knows the ins and outs of the music business, and he has a practical approach to their careers that they all find very useful. He is definitely one of the series’ best secondary characters.
Libra - Brianna
All of the women have complicated personal lives, but Brianna’s is arguably the messiest, given that her husband cheats on her and ultimately has a baby with another woman.
However, she shows time and again that she has the Libra’s innate ability to gain balance, though she repeatedly finds herself tested, particularly once she becomes the only parent. What’s more, she has a keen eye toward justice, both for herself and for those that she loves and values.
Scorpio - Naomi
Brandy gives a powerful pop star performance in her role as Naomi, one of the most formidable talents in the group.
Though she clearly loves being part of the group and making music, there is also a more sinister side to her, which is in keeping with the personality of the Scorpio. In particular, she shows that sign’s unwillingness to let go of a grudge, and this can sometimes interfere with her ability to cooperate with others.
Sagittarius - Brianna
Even though she shows many signs of being a Libra, it is also true that Brianna also has something of the Sagittarius about her.
She’s the kind of person that it is very fun to spend time with, which helps to explain why in many ways she is the one that keeps the group connected. She also shows significant empathy toward her husband’s mistress, which is not something that everyone could do in such difficult and traumatic circumstances.
Capricorn - Darren
When the series begins, Jill is married to Darren, and while she is struggling with her sexuality, he is devotedly in love with her. Unfortunately, this goes sour once she files for divorce, and he shows Capricorn's notorious strand of stubbornness when their will is thwarted.
Even when she makes it clear that she doesn’t want to be with him anymore, he refuses to believe it until he has no other choice, even going so far as to burn the divorce papers on her front porch and later resorts to even greater acts of violence.
Aquarius - JoJo
Many television series have explored the fraught relationships that exist between mothers and daughters, and Queens is no different. Most notably, it gives insight into Naomi’s difficult relationship with JoJo. Though the two don’t always get along, it’s clear that the latter has inherited her mother’s skill with music.
This isn’t a surprise, given that she is an Aquarius, a sign that, while known for being enigmatic, is also often very skilled and talented.
Pisces - Tina
Unlike Jill, who shows herself to be quite selfish and thoughtless when it comes to others, Tina is the opposite.
She shows all of the Pisces’ abilities to care deeply about other people, which is one of many reasons why she deserves to be seen as one of the best LGBTQ+ characters on television. While she is very willing to go the extra mile for Jill, when her beloved proves that she isn’t a good person, Tina is the first person to tell her so, demonstrating Pisces’ ability to see to the truth of a person.
