While the news of Netflix's Quicksilver adaptation is exciting, the books have already raised one major concern for the project's future.
With so much time until the next novel in the Fae & Alchemy series releases, Hart's apologies have caused faithful readers to worry over what will happen next. Hart did an incredible job of building out Quicksilver's fantasy world in book one, and developed several beloved characters. However, the narrative has yet to see any significant losses thus far. Callie Hart's Tease Means Quicksilver Will Likely Kill Off One Or More Beloved Characters
Book Two May Set The Tone For Book Three
Several recent fantasy book series are unafraid to kill off fan-favorite characters—and this often adds a more realistic element to the narrative. However, it also means readers will be heart-broken to see their favorite characters leave the series. While several of Hart's characters are well-liked, her latest comments imply that no character is safe from this fate in the Quicksilver sequel. As Hart has explained, the story will begin with "all gas, no brakes"—seemingly referring to the high stakes the second novel will revolve around, as well as implying the story could begin in media res, with readers dropped right into the action.
It would be devastating to see any of Hart's cast of characters succumb to this fate, but as the story is only just kicking off, it's unlikely they will all make it to the end.
There are several side characters that could be at risk in the second novel, and all of them have equal importance to the overall plot. While some hold smaller roles, their character development has already secured their place as a beloved character—including Archer, Kingfisher's fire sprite servant and friend. It would be devastating to see any of Hart's cast of characters succumb to this fate, but as the story is only just kicking off, it's unlikely they will all make it to the end.
A Character Death In Book Two Could Be What Saeris Needs To Develop Her Power
Quicksilver Only Scratches The Surface Of Her Power
Throughout Quicksilver, Saeris Fane is hesitant to learn anything about her Alchemist abilities, often refusing to accept that she has any sort of power. However, after Saeris opens the gateway between realms, she can no longer deny the power she has the potential to wield. Throughout the series, she attempts to control the quicksilver in order to fulfill her bargain with Kingfisher, but it isn't until the end of the first book that she truly understands how to do so.
By the end of the book, Hart makes it rather obvious that Saeris is more powerful than once believed—but the series has yet to dive into her true potential. While Quicksilver just scratches the surface of Saeris' power, it's likely a major character death in book two could be a driving force in further developing her character arc and abilities. As Quicksilver's ending finds Saeris becoming half-fae and half-vampire, the sequel to Hart's best-selling fantasy will be one of the most-anticipated books to release next year.
