An older post on Rainbow Six Siege.
Rainbow Six Extraction was first teased at E3 2019 under a different title, Rainbow Six Quarantine. Wishing to distance the game from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic's real-world quarantines, Ubisoft officially changed the game’s title to Rainbow Six Extraction in June 2021. Despite the name change, not much was revealed about the game until the Ubisoft Forward at E3 2021, which showcased new details about Rainbow Six Extraction in an extended gameplay demo that gave new insight into its story and the Archaens, the game's mysterious parasitic alien foes.
At publication time, an updated post on the official Ubisoft website now states Rainbow Six Extraction's release date is set for January 20, 2022. The original page was from June 2021 and was quietly updated sometime since its initial posting. It’s unclear whether the change in release information was published by mistake or done on purpose, as Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm this date elsewhere. However, the updated news post suggests an official announcement could be expected sometime soon either way.
The new Rainbow Six Extraction launch date aligns with the release window Ubisoft previously set for the game, which was announced as January 2022. Originally expected to release in September 2021, Ubisoft announced the Rainbow Six Extraction delay in July, citing the need for more development time so that it can “deliver a full-fledged AAA experience that changes the way you play and think about cooperative games.” This delay marked the third change in the title’s release date so far.
As the game is only months away from its official release window, the lack of a specific date from Ubisoft has raised questions about another delay potentially being considered behind the scenes. Considering the publisher has recently released several new trailers that provide a more in-depth look at Rainbow Six Extraction’s story and features - coupled with the addition of a date to its website - suggests the game may finally be on track to release without any further delays. Hopefully the extra time provided by the earlier delays could mean its developers were able to polish the game to the high quality as envisioned and that players will get a Rainbow Six spinoff which proves to be worth the wait..
Rainbow Six Extraction will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Google Stadia in January 2022.
