religious civil war destroyed the Earth.
The first season ended with an incredible number of plot development, including the discovery of Marcus' true identity and his exile by the Mithraic, along with the arrival of a colony of atheists who also escaped the destruction of Earth. Arguably the most important development, however, was Mother being impregnated and then forced to deliver a bio-organic snake creature. Season 2 sees Marcus slowly building his own church of Mthraic followers, while Mother and her children are inducted into the colony of atheists. A lesser show would have been content following and developing these huge character arcs and narrative strands, but Raised by Wolves has always been focused on recontextualizing the audience's understanding of what's happening on Kepler-22b.
Raised by Wolves now seems to be taking things a step further, as season 2 episode 4 introduces two completely new mysteries for audiences to spend weeks uncovering: the glistening golden appearance of Father's experimental android, and the carnivorous sea-creatures residing on Kepler's Tropical Zone. Throughout all of season 2, we see Father working on the skeleton of a long-dead android, one that absorbs the fuel blood that Father and other androids need to stay alive and hydrated. After winning a gladiator match with another android over several gallons worth of the stuff, Father "feeds" the skeleton which promptly disappears, then appears to Campion as a being of golden light (which he mistakes for Sol), and finally, showing up to Father at the very end of the episode.
At the very end of season 1, Mother and Father discover hieroglyphics in a cave that suggest there is a cyclical nature to Kepler-22b's history, as well as the place of androids on it. While there are far too many moving pieces going on right now for those hieroglyphics to return just yet, it wouldn't be a very far-fetched idea to suggest that the skeleton Father was restoring might potentially be one of the ancient androids that have been on Kepler-22b in its past, with an agenda of its own. While there's no doubt that the android will have some sort of kinship with Father for obvious reasons, it's a safe bet to assume that it has some connection to Mother's serpent child, and may even come from a time in which the serpent creatures occupied a stable population size.
Alongside Father's mysterious companion, Episode 4 also gives audiences their first look at the amphibious carnivores that live within the acid water on Kepler-22b. The first time they get into trouble this season is in Episode 2, killing dozens of of the atheist encampment in a way that causes them to believe it was Mother's child; however, after Campion rescues an android child from one of them in the most recent episode, it becomes clear that they've been the ones attacking the settlement as their skin is impervious to the acid.
Referring back to season 1, Father and Mother discover that the indigenous creatures the children began eating were actually de-evolved humans, which could very well also be the case for the amphibians living in the Tropical Zone. Even though the characters haven't put these pieces together yet, there is still plenty of time in Raised By Wolves season 2 for its continually expanding storylines to play out. These two new additions to the history of Kepler-22b are a stark reminder that nothing is as it seems, and it's fair to guess that there will be plenty more surprises for Mother and Father throughout the rest of the season.
