Justice League led Warner Bros. to make some changes to its superhero universe, with some characters getting their own movies and some movies getting standalone sequels.
Falling into the latter category is Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), and Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior).
The team was later ed by Rick Flag and Harley Quinn and together they infiltrated an underground laboratory in Corto Maltese where The Thinker (Peter Capaldi) had been working on the giant alien starfish named Starro the Conqueror. By the end of The Suicide Squad, the surviving were Bloodsport, King Shark, Harley Quinn, and Ratcatcher 2, with a surprise in the James Gunn hinted at more The Suicide Squad spinoffs, and the movie already reveals the perfect one: a TV show focused on Ratcatcher 2.
Gunn has called Ratcatcher 2 the heart of The Suicide Squad and with good reason, as her tragic backstory and kind heart (especially with animals) won the audience over and gave a lot of emotion to a movie full of action and humor. As there were many other characters in The Suicide Squad, viewers were left wanting to know more about Ratcatcher 2’s story and where life will take her next, so she would be the perfect character to get a spinoff show. A Ratcatcher 2 TV series could even bring King Shark to the mix, as they ended up becoming close friends in The Suicide Squad, even if King Shark tried to eat Ratcatcher 2 at first. Ratcatcher 2’s spinoff show could expand on her bond with King Shark and see them on different missions together, which would surely have a generous dose of humor and blood as well, as King Shark can be pretty graphic.
Although Gunn didn’t confirm nor deny that there are more The Suicide Squad spinoffs in development, the positive reception of Peacemaker so far can make way for more spinoff shows. There’s a lot of potential in the characters Gunn introduced in The Suicide Squad, and a spinoff show focused on Ratcatcher 2 can make the wait for a potential sequel less tiring while also telling more of this character’s interesting and still somewhat mysterious backstory.
