Rockstar Games has essentially confirmed that its 2018 Wild West adventure, Red Dead Redemption 2will not be receiving any single-player able content. The open-world gunslinger is a prequel to 2010's Red Dead Redemption, featuring a cast of both new and returning characters. The game also sports an online multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, which continues to receive frequent updates.

While Red Dead Redemption received a very popular single-player expansion in the form of Undead Nightmare, Rockstar's of RDR2 has been confined exclusively to the game's online multiplayer component. Red Dead Online recently received a Halloween-themed new game mode called frequent updates and special bonus weeks are now regularly rolled out for Red Dead Online, clearly demonstrating where Rockstar's development priorities lie.

Now, Rockstar has very heavily implied that no additional single-player content is being made for Red Dead Redemption 2 in an interview with GamesRadar. While the game is now two years old, making single-player DLC unlikely, many players were still holding out hope for more solo adventures in the Wild West. In the interview, Rockstar developer Scott Butchard explained,

"Right now the team is focused on building on top of and into the world of Read Dead Online. This world, that era, provides so much scope for storytelling and introducing a wide spectrum of different characters, all of which can be experienced on your own or with a full posse. It's really important for us that we make sure every type of player can experience the stories we have to tell, and can control the way they experience all of this in Read Dead Online."

The lack of more single-player content for Red Dead Redemption 2 should come as no surprise to Rockstar Games fans, as their previous title Grand Theft Auto 5 also never received any single-player DLC. Instead Grand Theft Auto Online has received all of Rockstar's post-launch , just like Red Dead Online. The online multiplayer portion of the 2013 crime adventure continues to receive updates today, with a large Halloween event taking place last month.

For those that know Rockstar Games and their recent titles, it should come as no real surprise that Red Dead Redemption 2 won't be receiving single-player content. Rockstar has shown much greater interest in online multiplayer games, like Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Onlinewhich net them a lot of money from dedicated players. Red Dead Redemption 2's single-player story is considered one of the greatest video game experiences ever created, and so this final nail in the coffin will surely sting for many fans.
