Rockstar Games has produced some of the biggest video game franchises ever, and it appears like other developers such as Red Dead Redemption 2 clip to seal the deal.

Rockstar has been around since the 1990's and is based primarily in New York City. Their first widely successful franchise came in the form of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption, perhaps only because it's been around for a lesser time than Grand Theft Auto, is Rockstar Games' second-most popular game series. The first Red Dead Redemption came out in 2010 to critical acclaim, while its sequel was released in 2018 and is still making waves to this day. Therefore, it’s no surprise Mythic Quest decided to use a clip from RDR2 in order to show off the power of video games.

In Mythic Quest’s fourth episode, a teenage YouTuber goes viral after declaring he will no longer play the titular game Mythic Quest. It’s meant to be a parody of popular YouTube personality PewDiePie, given the teen YouTuber’s channel name in the episode is Pootie Shoe. But what’s important about this episode is that they have a scene dedicated to showing off the power of cutscenes in video games. In order to illustrate, the show uses a popular scene from Assassins Creed,” the other character responds.

What’s important to note is that – up until this scene – every clip of video game footage used had been made by Ubisoft. Mythic Quest is partly developed and paid for by Ubisoft, so it makes sense they would use their own footage in the show to promote their work and games. Therefore, it’s very telling that the show went with a Rockstar title when demonstrating how influential cutscenes can be in a game. Rockstar games, especially the Red Dead Redemption series, have been praised for their intricate and detailed storylines, with cutscenes being a crucial device needed to tell the full story. The improved graphics and gameplay of more recent Rockstar titles like RDR2 makes the transition between gameplay and cut scenes all the smoother, thus leading to an overall high-quality video game.

The fact that the show went with a Rockstar game versus a Ubisoft game during this particular scene (even though they mention a Ubisoft title right after) seems to imply they recognize that Rockstar Games produces some of the best and most well-written games in the industry. With the success of the Red Dead Redemption and GTA franchises, that point really can’t be denied. This scene from Mythic Quest is proof that even a huge developer like Ubisoft is willing to tip their hats to the success of Rockstar Games.
